The commercial driver's license (CDL) provides a wide variety of vehicle types and trucking jobs. This is among the most flexible CDLs. It can be used for anything from recreational vehicles and buses to passenger vehicles and even hazmat transportation vehicles.

With a class C, you can operate straight trucks, box trucks, dump trucks and buses designed to hold 16 or more passengers, including the driver.

Passenger Vehicles

New York drivers can choose from a wide range of classes. These classes cater to a variety of needs for driving and the different kinds of vehicles. Understanding the different classes is important, whether you're planning to drive down Broadway in your parents 1986 Toyota Corolla, or pilot an oversized truck through the Adirondacks.

The class C non CDL license is ideal for those who wish to drive passenger vehicles such as station wagons or sedans. This license allows you to drive a single vehicle with a maximum GVWR of 26,001 pounds. You can also tow vehicles up to a maximum trailer load of 10,000 pounds. Drivers can add endorsements on their class C licenses for more possibilities for employment. These endorsements could include passengers (P) tank (T) or hazardous materials (H). The process of obtaining these endorsements usually involves passing additional knowledge exams and specific tests for skills.

Passenger vehicles in the class C license for non-CDL are restricted to carrying up to 16 passengers, which includes the driver. Drivers are also required to limit the number of passengers younger than 18 they carry in the event that it is not an immediate family member or someone older than 18. Teen drivers under the age of 18 who are licensed with a class Prawo Jazdy Kat C license must have a parent or guardian in the vehicle at all times.

To be qualified for a non-CDL class C license, you must be 18 years old or older and pass a medical examination. In addition you must satisfy the federal requirements for driving on interstates or for transport of hazardous materials.

A class M license is available for those who wish to drive motorcycles or mopeds. It is only accessible to junior Prawo Jazdy Kat C drivers and only valid in the State of New York. Class M drivers are only able to use motorized two-wheeled vehicles. New York teens must complete a training course and log hours of practice before they can get their class M license. The license for teens also comes with restrictions such as not being able to carry any person older than 21 years old and not driving between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Combination Vehicles

If your job requires driving a combination vehicle, Class C is the right license for you. It allows you to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more with trailer(s) that weigh 10,000 pounds or less. This includes passenger vans small hazmat vehicles as well as some delivery trucks. You can also drive school buses, provided that you've got the appropriate endorsements and have passed the background checks as well as the medical tests.

There are a variety of states that have additional rules and regulations that are applicable to drivers who have this class, including the requirement to keep the log book that details the number of hours you've driven and the kind of cargo you're transporting. Failure to keep this log book could result in fines, or the suspension of your CDL. In certain instances you might need to apply for loads that are too large in the event that your cargo exceeds certain limits.

To obtain a Class C License You must be at least 18 years of age. To move up to a higher-level CDL, you must be able to pass the knowledge and competence tests for the category and complete any required training or work-related experience. A category C + E license is among the most comprehensive HGV licenses that you can obtain which permits drivers to operate a range of large trailers and vehicles. This includes single and double trailers with an authorized maximum mass (MAM) up to 8,250kg. This allows drivers to drive articulated vehicles such as lorries, coaches and the more basic drawbar-based vehicles known as artic or tipper trucks.

Along with trucks and passenger cars drivers with the category C license are able to operate small commercial vehicles, such as dump trucks, vans and straight or box trucks. If they have the necessary endorsements, they can also operate buses that can carry more than 16 people for hire, as well as vehicles that transport hazardous material.

Tow truck operators are another group of drivers who need a category C licence. They typically work with tow trucks that have a GVWR less than 26,001 pounds. They can tow other vehicles if the vehicle being towed has a GVWR that is less than or equal to that of the tow truck.

If the tow truck has a GVWR of more than 26,001 pounds or the driver intends to transport passengers or dangerous materials, then they will need an upgrade to a higher level CDL. There are two levels for tow truck operators licenses which are level 1 and 2. Level 2 certification requires at minimum one year of experience as a driver of a tow truck and level 2 certification has to be obtained in order to be permitted to operate tow trucks that are more than 10,000 pounds GVWR when they aren't carrying or towing passengers in exchange for compensation.
